A 6 year old iMac is not very repairable so I did not want to put money into internal components of a system that is likely on borrowed time.Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon.
Transcend 512Gb Sjm500 Thunderbolt 2 Usb 3.0 Mac Is NotDisabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. Transcend 512Gb Sjm500 Thunderbolt 2 Usb 3.0 Install A USBReviewed in Canada on July 1, 2015 Bought this cause I could not install a USB drive in my 2011 iMac and it was showing its age with its slow drive. You need to push Options (to select boot drive), detach and reattach the drive so that it will be detected and then it works great. You dont have this issue when waking-up from sleep or when dual booting with winbloze. ![]() Blue light comes on briefly, then disappears.HELP i already have 2 weeks of work on there that isnt backed up.Arghhhhh. Going from the slow internal 5400rpm hard disk to this ssd connected to my Thunderbolt 1 port is a night and day difference. Much faster. The only problem is that it rarely automatically boots from the drive. I have to power up the Mac holding option key and then select the Transcend drive. Sometimes I have to unplug it and plug it in again for it to show up. I like that it come with both USB3 and Thunderbolt connectors. Ive used it with both connectors (not at the same time) and my Mac doesnt complain at all. Enough that I prop up one end a inch on my desk to let air get around it. My Mac also gets hotter because the SSD drive runs so much faster that the Mac isnt waiting for the drive as long. It can work faster, producing more heat, that it did with the mechanical drives. Loads faster than compared to the 7200rpm hard drive I had it on before. ![]() Boot time reduced to well under a minute and device usable immediately after logging rather than minutes of chugging with internal drive. This could extend the life of the machine for another couple of years. The OS seems designed to work best with an SSD or at least a fusion drive now and adding this external one was much less expensive that replacing internal or mounting an SSD in DVD area of iMac.
